Parthenope hoplonotus

(Adams & White, 1848)

Species of a medium size. Carapace apparently broader than long, and the rostrum not much produced anteriorly. The spine at the postero-lateral angle of each branchial region enormous in size and of a blade-like shape. Carapace covered with tubercles of various sizes. No distinct spines in front and in the rear of the huge branchial spine. (T. Sakai, 1976)

Type locality: Eastern Sea.
Range: Red Sea; Madagascar; Mauritius (Michel, 1964); Cargados Carajos (Rathbun, 1911); Sri Lanka; Bay of Bengal; Andaman Islands (Alcock, 1895a); Japan - Ishigaki-jima, Ryukyu-shoto (Sakai, 1976a); Taiwan; Singapore; Philippines - south of Manila Bay (Serène & Vadon, 1981); Indonesia - Kepulauan Kai (Flipse, 1930); Australia - off Cape York (Miers, 1886); Hawaiian Islands - east coast of Maui (Rathbun, 1906); Tahiti.
