Ebalia tuberculosa

(A. Milne Edwards, 1873)

The carapace of this relatively smaller species is as long as broad and is somewhat hexagonal. It and the appendages are thickly covered with coarse granules. There are six tubercles on the upper surface, of which two are in the median line, one cardiac and the other intestinal; two are gastric and are placed side by side in front of the cardiac tubercle, while the other two are branchial, each placed almost in line with the cardiac tubercle. The posterior border is armed with a laminar tubercle on each side. The hepatic regions are weakly swollen. The front is produced beyond the eyes and is slightly emarginate. The pterygostomial region has a tubercle which is also covered with granules.
The chelipeds are less than twice the length of the carapace, the arm is subcylindrical, the palm is not remarkably inflated, its upper outer border is covered with rather sharp granules; the fingers are distinctly shorter than the palm. The whole surface of the ambulatory legs is granulated, the granules being various in size. The abdomen of the male consists of five pieces, the third to fifth terga being fused together; the telson is elongate triangular, having a median spinule at its proximal end. The abdomen of the female consists of five pieces, the first tergum is covered by the posterior border of the carapace, and the fourth to sixth terga are fused together. (Sakai, 1937)
