Carapace usually broader than long. Dorsal surface rugose, with well defined regions. Antero-lateral margins usually arcuate and ranging from being almost smooth to strongly toothed. Mandibular palp with three articles, the terminal one undivided. Third maxillipeds: exopod with flagellum well developed, short, vestigial or absent. G1 slender or stout, with terminal section shorter than the subterminal, directed laterally, tapered and acute. (Guinot 1998)
