Carapace a little broader than long, subquadrilateral, deepish, convex fore and aft. Dorsal surface smooth, with the regions indistinct. Antero-lateral margins short, slightly arched, divergent posteriorly, and bearing four lobules. Fronto-orbital border not much less than the greatest breadth of the carapace. Front about a third the breadth of carapace, square-cut, usually bilobed, being notched in the middle line. Antennules folded transversely. Orbital hiatus filled and closed by a lobular projection of the basal antennal article; the flagellum entirely excluded from the orbital hiatus. Buccal cavern square, completely closed by the third maxillipeds; the efferent channels well defined. Palp of third maxillipeds articulating with the inner angle of the merus. Chelipeds subequal, much more massive and shorter, or not much longer, than the legs. Ambulatory legs slender, unarmed. (Guinot 1998)
