Genus Domecia

Eydoux & Souleyet, 1842

Carapace somewhat oval transversely, but contracted posteriorly, flat. Antero-lateral margins armed with numerous sharp curved spines. Postero-lateral margins concave and convergent. Front profusely spinate, the spines being sharp and falling into six groups separated by intervals. Basal antennal article reaching the front; flagellum short. Endostomial crests not very strong. Third maxillipeds very large, about twice as broad as long, with the merus remarkably short and broad. Chelipeds somewhat unequal, spinose; merus almost entirely hidden by the carapace; fingers, compressed. Ambulatory legs stout and spinose, with a dactylo-propodal articulation formed by a rounded prolongation of the propodal lateral margin sliding against and beneath a projecting button situated proximally on the lateral margin of the dactylus; tapered dactyl bearing three curved spines preapically on anterior margin. Commensal crabs associated with corals. (Guinot 1998)
