A. Milne Edwards, 1869
Carapace more or less globose, more or less strongly convex dorsally. Regions usually well defined, more or less strongly projecting, more or less evenly granular; the regions separated by smooth, more or less deep furrows; more rarely, regions indistinct and irregularly granular. Antero-lateral margins divided into four lobes, demarcated or hardly developed but always with granules of which some are larger; sometimes only three lobes. Entire body usually covered with a thick coat of short and long setae, often disposed in tufts on the regions, sometimes so thick that the surface and outline are not perceptible. Buccal cavity quadrangular, broad. Third maxillipeds with the merus broader than long and the antero-lateral angle rectangular, the two meri being separated by a space occupied by the palps. Antennules folded transversely. Usually chelipeds with blade-shaped fingers. (Guinot 1998)
