Genus Zalasius

Carapace more or less globose, dorsally more or less strongly convex. Regions usually well defined; the regions separated by more or less deep furrows. Antero-lateral margins sometimes entire, or divided into granular lobes or tubercles. Entire body usually covered with a thick coat, so thick that the surface and outline are not perceptible. Buccal cavity longitudinally oval and narrow. Third maxillipeds subpediform and elongated, with the merus much more longer than long and the antero-lateral angle obliterated, the two meri being in contact medially leaving only the anterior part of the palps visible. Antennules folded longitudinally. (Guinot 1998)
