Genus Platymaia

Miers, 1886

Carapace circular to subcircular; exorbital angle always spiniform, antero-lateral border with more or less well developed spines; rostrum composed of two slender spines. Interantennular partition with a well developed long spine at its apex ventrally usually overreaching rostral spines. Basal antennal article distally free and at level with anterior margin of eyestalk, green (antennal) gland immediately at its proximal junction. Carpus of chelipeds with spines or tubercles. Propodi of third to fifth pereiopods flattened and fringed with conspicuous hair anteriorly, another range of hair on dorsal surface. (Türkay 1995)
