Subfamilia Dorippinae

Rather large size. Afferent branchial orifices narrow and situated ahead of the bases of the chelipeds. Front usually cut into two submedian teeth. Third maxilliped with epipod and exopodial flagellum. P4 and P5 reduced and subdorsal, subcheliform. All abdominal segments distinct. Generally male sexual orifice coxal, with the opening on the condylus of P5 coxa, more rarely coxo-sternal. Carrying behaviour known, notably with sponges, pieces of shell or debris, broken or intact valves of lamellibranchs, sea anemones, scutellid sea urchins, leaves. (Guinot 1998)
