Carapace much broader than long, generally smooth, finely pitted under magnification, granulate near antero-lateral borders; front straight, faintly notched medially; antero-lateral borders of carapace with 5 or 6 granular denticles followed by a sharp procurved spine. Chelipeds heterochelous, smooth and unarmed; fingers slender and hooked at tip, about as long as palm in the larger chela, longer in the smaller. Ambulatory legs slender; fifth pereiopods natatorial, with a distinct swimming paddle. (Türkay 1995)
Antero-lateral border bearing 6 or 7 antero-lateral teeth, including extraorbital angle; front straight; merus of third maxilliped not produced at antero-external angle. (Davie 1999)
