Genus Plagusia

Latreille, 1804

Carapace subcircular, depressed. Antero-lateral margins toothed. No true front, so that the antennular fossae are visible in a dorsal view as deep clefts in the anterior border of the carapace. Interantennular septum broad. Buccal cavern squarish, its anterior border crenate and projecting strongly in a horizontal direction. Third maxillipeds not completely closing the buccal cavern, but not leaving a rhomboidal gap. Chelipeds subequal, dorsally rugose; fingers stout, with rounded, hollowed-out tips. Ambulatory legs very stout, dorsally rugose, with broad massive meri and short serrated dactyli. Male abdomen triangular and rather broad. (Guinot 1998)
