Genus Helice

de Haan, 1835

Carapace with three distinct antero-lateral teeth and a trace of a fourth notch on postero-lateral margins. Suborbital ridge in males isomorphic in its lateral half and sometimes heteromorphic in its mesial half. Chela of chelipeds in males without a proximal patch of setae; meral stridulating ridge in males always conspicuous, longer than on third of merus margin; that in females poorly developed or wanting. Carpi and propodi of second and third pereiopods with thick velvety area, lacking in fourth and fifth pereiopods. Median plate of endophragmal system distinct in thoracic sternites VI and VII, and reduced on thoracic sternite V. Male abdominal segment III protruding laterally. Basal segment of male first pleopod thick and subsquare distally in dorsal view; horny endpiece short; suture on ventromesial surface, distally (distal to palp) torded towards dorsal face; palp thick and triangular.
