Genus Planes

Bowdich, 1825

Carapace about as long as broad, quadrate. Dorsal surface convex; regions scarcely defined; lines faint. Antero-lateral margins convex. Exorbital angles acute; behind it a slight notch. Front about half width of carapace, gently deflexed; lobes at line of flexion obsolete. A rhomboidal gap between the third maxillipeds. Merus of third maxilliped shorter than ischium; palp articulating at middle of anterior border of the merus. Ambulatory legs much flattened, somewhat natatory. (Guinot 1998)

Type species: Planes clypeatus Bowdich, 1825, a subjective junior synonym of Cancer minutus Linnaeus, 1758, by monotypy.
