Carapace rectangular, longer than broad, widest near midlength, deflected anteriorly, with broad W-shaped depression mesogastric region inflated; pterygostomial region fused to carapace. Third maxilliped with exopod, merus with distolateral projection. Anterior extension of sternite of first pereiopod smooth, sternite of fourth pereiopods with suture. Cutting edge of dactylus of chela with a proximal tooth. Merus of second pereiopod lacking distomesial projection; coxae of third and fourth pereiopods with reduced anterior lobes. (Türkay 1995)
Type species: Lithoscaptus paradoxus A. Milne Edwards, 1862, by monotypy.
