Genus Ostracotheres

H. Milne Edwards, 1853

Small symbiotic crabs, usually living as commensals. Carapace broadly rounded, firm but not hard. Dorsal surface with regions defined. Antennae minute. Third maxillipeds: ischium and merus indistinguishably fused; merus with inner distal angle curved; palp two-articulated; carpus rounded. Ambulatory legs: P5 articulated to body not dorsad to P4; dactyli of all pairs with simple apex. (Guinot 1998)

Type species: Pinnotheres tridacnae Rüppell, 1830, by designation of Schmitt et al., 1973.
