Female gonopores in sternal position (vulvae). Male in a coxal or coxo-sternal position. Thus internal fertilization. Absence of spermathecae, the paired seminal receptacles being a part of the genital ducts. Uropods never present in the shape of vestigial platelets. Presence of a flat thoracic sternum intercalated between the pereiopods. Generally a true sterno-abdominal cavity. Locking apparatus of the abdomen generally consisting of a typical press-button, exceptionally atypical (Leucosiidae for example) or absent (Cryptochiridae for example). Male Pl 1 forming a tube completely rolled. Male Pl 2 sometimes longer or as long as Pl 1, more usually shorter. (Guinot 1998)
