Genus Serenius

Small size. Carapace with a xanthoid outline but not very broad; dorsal face more or less lobulate, often with the anterior part of the flat, rounded lobules fringed by rigid setae. Front distinctly bilobed. Antero-lateral margin divided into lobes more or less demarcated one from the other, sometimes cristiform/carinate. Two supraorbital fissures. Basal antennal article prolonged in the orbital hiatus, which contains also the antennal third article. Anterior margin of the buccal frame only regularly sinuous. Third maxillipeds broad and thick; merus wide. Chelipeds equal in males; outer face of the palm lobulate or with groups of granules. Ambulatory legs laterally compressed, cristiform on the upper margin, sometimes carinate. Abdominal segments 3-5 fused. First male pleopod rather thick, ornamented with long plumose subdistal setae and with an apical lobe more or less curved. (Guinot 1998)
