Genus Daira

Carapace broad, oval, strongly convex in both directions; regions well delimited and subdivided into very numerous rounded convex lobules, corresponding to fused mushroom-like ornaments. Antero-lateral borders strongly arched, crenulate; postero-lateral borders very short, concave. Front deflexed, produced into two obtuse lobes. Eyestalks short, thick, subglobular. Basal article of antenna not touching the front. Endostomial ridges marked, incomplete. Third maxilliped anterior margin of merus deeply notched. Chelipeds unequal in both sexes; merus with the upper edge crest-like; palm with many sharp triangular teeth; finger tips either spoon-shaped or acute. P2-P5 densely covered with setae on the anterior margins of merus, carpus and propodus; merus with stout sharp spines. Male abdomen with all segments distinct. (Guinot 1998)
