Genus Elamena

H. Milne Edwards, 1837

Carapace, including rostrum, polygonal to pear-shaped, its dorsal surface without grooves except for a faint gastro-cardiac groove, which may be sometimes absent. Rostrum truncate or triangular, continuous with carapace surface. Epistome long, about as long as broad. Third maxillipeds broad, almost completely filling the mouth field. Chelipeds stouter than ambulatory legs, particularly in large males. Male 1st pleopod strongly curved and twisted above a stout base. (Türkay 1995)

Type species: Hymenosoma mathaei Desmarest, 1825, by monotypy.
