Carapace broad. Dorsal surface depressed, more or less tuberculated or spinose; branchial regions flattish or swollen. No preocular spine. Presence of a postorbital tooth. Rostrum short, flattened and notched. Orbits shallow. Eyes short and thick, visible from above when retracted. Basal antennal article very narrow, with a terminal spine. Chelipeds much shorter than ambulatory legs. Ambulatory legs of moderate length, more or less compressed. Male abdomen with sixth segment decreasing in size distally. (Guinot 1998)
