Psopheticus hughi

Carapace narrow, four-fifths as long as broad, subcircular. Surface irregularly punctate and pitted. Exorbital angle with a broad, directed obliquely outward tooth. Antero-lateral border strongly arched, armed with an acuminate spine, pointing strongly outward and not very distant from the exorbital angle. Front subtruncate, slightly more produced at the rounded angles and with a shallow median sinus. Subhepatic region not very inflated. Chelipeds long and massive, smooth; fingers gaping; carpus elongate, with a stout, pointed spine at outer angle and with the inner angle produced, subacute; merus with a strong, much curved spine at middle of upper border, three slender spines on lower border, and two subdistal spines on the inner border. Ambulatory legs unarmed, except for the subdistal spine on the merus of P2-P5. (Guinot 1998)

Type locality: Macabalan Point Light, Mindanao, Philippines, 8°35'30"-8°37'15"N, 124°36'E, 360-396 m.
Range: Japan - Tosa Bay (Sakai, 1939, 1976), Ashizuri-misaki (Miyake, 1983); Philippines - Macabalan Point Light, Mindanao (Rathbun, 1914d), north-east of Lubang Island (Guinot, 1990), north-east of Lubang Island (Serène & Vadon, 1981).
