Carcinoplax meridionalis

Carapace very convex fore and aft. Surface smooth, glabrous, scarcely areolated, only with transversal ridges. Antero-lateral borders arched. A blunt tooth at the exorbital angle; two antero-lateral teeth, the first with a sharp tip and directed forwards, the second being a stout acuminate spine, directed obliquely forwards. Front double-edged, nearly straight. Supraorbital margin smooth. Chelipeds very developed, stout; heterochely and heterodonty, the major cheliped being considerably heavier than the minor one; palm smooth; fingers rather long; black colouration extending onto a part of the palm in males; carpus with a tooth at the inner angle. Ambulatory legs long and slender; last three articles fringed with long, fine hairs; dactyli with two marginal stripes of dense pubescence; P5 similar to preceeding legs. (Guinot 1998)

Type locality: Seventeen and a half miles south-east of Rame Head, Victoria, Australia, 139 m.
Range: East China Sea (Chen, 1984); Australia - (Guinot, 1989a), Rame Head, Gabo Island, Mt. Cann, Victoria, Bass Strait, and Eucla (Rathbun, 1923a), Disaster Bay (Griffin, 1972), off Newcastle, N.S.W. (Serène & Lohavanijaya, 1973), Wollongong (Griffin & Brown, 1976), from Port Jackson to Eucla.
