Carapace transversely elliptical, 1.4-1.5 times as broad as long, smooth, convex in both directions, epibranchial ridge sometimes absent, if present starting at last antero-lateral tooth and reaching across branchial regions; front with median and submedian indentations of similar depth; antero-lateral borders of carapace with 7 teeth, first to fifth rounded and lobular, sixth and seventh acute, fifth and seventh smallest, sixth largest. Chelipeds slightly heterochelous and smooth, merus with 3 strong teeth on anterior border, posterior border smooth; carpus with a strong tooth at its internal border. (Türkay 1995)
Portunidae with eyestalks of normal length; carapace broad (transversely elliptical) and convex in both directions; antennal flagellum lies in orbital hiatus; seven antero-lateral teeth, sixth the largest; arm and wrist of chelipeds bearing spines. (Davie 1999)
