Genus Chasmagnathus

de Haan, 1833

Lateral margins of carapace distinctly convergent. Suborbital ridge in males and females heteromorphic, bearing strong knots in its middle part. Chela of chelipeds in males and females lacking a proximal patch of setae; meral stridulating ridge short, present in both males and females. Ambulatory legs 1-2 with dense setal area. Median plate of endophragmal system distinct in thoracic sternite VII, and reduced in thoracic sternites V-VI. Male abdominal segment III projecting laterally. Male first pleopod with suture running on ventromesial surface throughout, stem thick and broadened distally; horny endpiece bearing genital pore dorsally; palp thick and triangular. (Türkay 1995)
