Genus Xanthasia

Carapace more or less transversely elliptical. Antero-lateral margins well defined. Lateral margins forming an upturned crest, so that the dorsal surface is depressed and as saucer-like. Other crests present on the dorsal surface of the carapace. In the center of the dorsal surface presence of a large tubercle or boss, mushroom-like or reniform. Front prominent, not deflexed even if on an inferior plane. Cornea small. Buccal cavern and mouthparts having the pinnotherid characteristic form, but anterior edge of the buccal cavity bilobed or bow-shaped. Third maxillipeds: ischium and merus forming a single piece; palp two-articulated; dactylus aborted, represented by a few hairs. Ambulatory legs: dactyli of all legs short and subequal.
