Genus Phymodius

A. Milne Edwards, 1863

Dorsal surface of the carapace divided into prominent and projecting regions. 2M and 3M always defined, as usually regions L. Basal article of the antennae without a prolonged antero-lateral external angle, thus orbital hiatus fully open. Antennal flagellum directed backwards freely into the orbital hiatus. Chelipeds elongated; distal extremities of the merus extending beyond the lateral margins of the carapace; fingers elongated and without brushes of setae near the cutting margins. Ambulatory legs of the usual shape; their merus about twice as long as broad. (Guinot 1998)
