Carapace suboblong or ovate-oblong. Dorsal surface tuberculate or uneven. Hepatic and branchial borders laterally produced, between the two carapace more or less constricted. Rostral spines well developed and divided by a median V-shaped sinus. Preocular and postocular spines distinct, the eye being retractile against the latter; supraorbital eave well developed. Antennae visible at sides of rostrum in dorsal view, basal article rather broad, next two articles flattened. Third maxillipeds: merus broad. Chelipeds well developed; merus trigonal; palm dilated and compressed; fingers usually gaping at base. Ambulatory legs subcylindrical. Male and female abdomens with all segments distinct.
