Subfamilia Chasmocarcininae

Carapace high, slightly broadened; front narrow. Epistome reduced; antennule well developed, basal segment occupying hollow, no space for peduncle. Buccal cavity narrow anteriorly. Third maxilliped merus more or less suboval; palp short, extending slightly distal to ischium, not closing buccal cavity entirely. P2-P5 elongated and narrows. Male abdomen consisting of 5 segments in adult (3-5 fused). Male Pl 1 strong, and characteristic in shape (After Serène, 1984a: 176).
