Genus Lophoplax

Carapace narrowly quadrate. Surface entirely covered by a thick usually spongy tomentum and longish stiff setae, except for several nude areolets, symmetrically arranged; the various regions distinct. Antero-lateral margins armed with a series of tuberculiform or blunt, sometimes flattened, teeth. Front strongly deflexed, bilobed. Antennules somewhat obliquely folded. Antennal basal article rather short; flagellum slender. Chelipeds somewhat unequal or equal, heavy, tomentose, except for callous nude nodules or ridges; carpus bulky; propodus rather strong. Ambulatory legs not very long, rather stout, fringed with hairs; dactyli flattened, with sharp tips. First abdominal male segment covering the whole space between the bases of the last ambulatory legs, second segment narrower, third segment produced laterally but not reaching the coxae of P5.
