Genus Palmyria

Carapace subhexagonal. Dorsal surface with regions poorly marked. Antero-lateral margins rounded, bearing two intermediate teeth in addition to epibranchial tooth. Postero-lateral margins strongly convergent. Frontal margins medially grooved, bilobed. Basal antennal article cylindrical, lying between antennular groove and inferior orbital angle. Crests of endostome defining efferent channels well developed. Third maxillipeds with the merus very short, transversely ovoid. Chelipeds markedly unequal; merus short, with its superior margin crested; outer surface of palm prominently tuberculate; fingers thin, denticulate and crossing at their tips, dactyl curved. Ambulatory legs laterally compressed, with the upper margin cristate, and with a dactylo-propodal articulation formed by a rounded prolongation of the propodal lateral margin sliding against and beneath a projecting button situated proximally on the lateral margin of the dactylus; dactyl with curved cornute tip. Commensal crabs associated with corals. (Guinot 1998)
