Carapace as wide or wider than long, convex, surface smooth or finely granulated. Rostrum tridentate, lateral rostral teeth prominent. Antero-lateral teeth well developed, blunt. Female sternal grooves end apart on small tubercles between base of first legs. Cheliped with an epipod, but no podobranch. First two pairs of legs without podobranchs; strongly knobbed, may be ridged, inner margins of dactyli armed with 3–4 small spines. Last two pairs of legs reduced, third pair shortest, no spine on outer margin of dactyl of fourth leg. Abdomen of six free segments. Uropod plates well developed, visible externally, used in the abdominal locking mechanism. Distolateral corners of third to fifth abdominal segments produced as blunt tubercles.
