Telmessus acutidens

(Stimpson, 1858)

Carapace well areolate, the areolae with distinct patches of granules; lateral epibranchial spine rather slender and elongate, all lateral spines with granulated borders; of the four frontal teeth the middle ones are small and obsolete, the median frontal incision is evident, deep and narrow. Chelipeds shorter than first ambulatory legs, upper border of palm and carpus with numerous spinules, carpal spine strong. Second to fifth pereiopods with dactyli flattened. Penultimate segment of female abdomen not sinuate on outer borders. (Türkay 1995)

Type locality: Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan.
Range: Japan - Hakodate (Stimpson, 1858a, 1907), Tokyo Bay (Ortmann, 1893), Mutsu Bay (Yokoya, 1928), Asamushi, Sendai, Matsushima and Tokyo Bay (Sakai, 1939), Mutsu Bay, Sendai, and Yokohama (Sakai, 1976a), Yamagata Prefecture (Suzuki S., 1979), Soya Strait (Takeda & Miyauchi, 1992), Oshoro, Kikonai, Hakodate and Funka Bay (Komai et al., 1992), Muroran, from Hokkaido and south of Sakhalin southward to Korea Channel; Korea - Genzan, Ulsan, Pusan, Jinhae, and Yogji Island (Kamita, 1941), Jang-gun Island, Bangjugpo and Guryongpo (Kim, 1973).
