Achaeus pugnax

Carapace with branchial and cardiac regions well demarcated by broad grooves from surrounding regions, regions otherwise ill-defined; Gastric and cardiac regions each with a single slender spine; supraorbital eave with numerous spinules on surface and along outer edge; rostral lobes narrow, contiguous, separated only by a narrow V-shaped notch, tips subacute. Eyestalks short and very stout, a small tubercle above cornea at distal extremity of eyestalk. Basal antennal article with closely spaced tubercles on lateral margin as well as tubercles on ventral surface. Ischium of third maxilliped with two longitudinal rows of spines, one lateral and one submedial; merus with a medial row of spines, inner margin with some submarginal spines. Chelipeds in male long, meri and chelae robust, spinous and hairy; merus subtrigonal to subcylindrical, carpus subcylindrical, chela compressed. Dactyli of the last two pairs of ambulatory legs curved, not strongly falcate. (Türkay 1995)
