Achaeus brevidactylus

Carapace with regions well delimited by deep furrows, a low tubercle on gastric and cardiac regions, respectively, hepatic lobe rounded, strongly protruded outwards and markedly convex, supraocular eave smooth; rostral spines short and pointed. Chelipeds of male broadened, much heavier than the ambulatory legs; carpus with a number of spinules along inner margin; palm swollen, fingers incurved. First two pairs of ambulatory legs longer than the last two, dactyls of first two pairs terminally broadened, the remaining clearly tapering and pointed. (Türkay 1995)

Type locality: off Norosi-zaki, Shimoda, Japan.
Range: Japan - Shimoda (Sakai, 1938a), Sagami Bay (Sakai, 1965b), north off Tsushima (Takeda, 1973c), Sagami Bay and Shimoda (Sakai, 1976a), Mimase, Tosa Bay (Muraoka, 1998); 30-85 m.
