Notosceles barnardi

(Sakai, 1974)

Carapace 1.5 times as long as wide. The two inner fronto-orbital teeth on either side of median rostral tooth truncate and in close contact with each other, not protruding; rostral tooth serrate on its lateral sides. The two carinae of the upper palmar border of cheliped are serrate and proximally connected; lower border armed with three spines; carpus with sharp tubercles and a pair of spines. Dactylus of second to fourth pereiopods slightly sickle-shaped. (Türkay 1995)

Type locality: Kii Minabe, Japan.
Range: South Africa - Point Shepstone (Stebbing, 1920b, Barnard, 1950); Japan - Kii Minabe (Sakai, 1974a, 1976a), Wagu, Shima Peninsula (Sakai, 1977), Nanki Kushimoto (Miyake, 1983).
