Surface of carapace irregular, regions fairly marked; supraorbital spines usually bearing three fixed spinules; carapace spines prominent, especially gastric spine on neck; hepatic swellings usually spined; females with spine on each branchial region. Male abdomen with first two segments narrow, first segment with mid-dorsal protuberance, second with broad based acute spine directed postero-dorsally. Female abdomen with one protuberance and/or spine on each of the first three segments; fused segments with proximal spines near articulation with third segment. (Türkay 1995)
