Phymodius nitidus

(Dana, 1852)

The carapace is broad (B/L > 1.5), the surface smooth and glossy or finely granular and stippled. 2M is sometimes longitudinally divided. The ambulatory legs have numerous setae. The carapace surface is smooth and polished, 2M is entire; the breadth of the carapace is equal to 1.55-1.70 times the length. The abdomen of the male has a subtriangular telson, as long as broad measured at the base; segment 6 is subquadrate and as long as broad measured at the base, hardly enlarged distally and with the lateral margins feebly concave. The first pleopod of the male has a dozen long, non-plumose, preapical setae. (Serène, 1984)
