Actaea pura

Stimpson, 1858

The carapace is entirely covered with facetted tubercles coalescent, perforated, petaloid or more or less raspberry-shaped, forming a paving. Group savignyi-calculosa. The carapace is furnished with more numerous tubercles, smaller, more compacted, and noticeably projecting. On the chelipeds of the male the black colouration of the fixed finger does not extend backwards onto the palm. The tubercles are less projecting and, in particular, those of the fronto-orbital margin have their conical summits obliterated; on the ambulatory legs there are much less stout spines. The carapace has a less well defined median frontal furrow and antero-lateral lobes; the regions are less clearly separated one from the other by less regular and narrower furrows. The carapace has a more defined ornamentation; the tubercles are more projecting, the furrows better indicated; the tubercles have a large raised, central granule surrounded by a crown of granules more or less distinctly differentiated. The tubercles on the median part of the carapace are of a raspberry-shape, with a large central prominence are surrounded with smaller granules nearly as prominent as the large one; the pores are comparatively smaller and less numerous. The central granule is rounded and surrounded by small, round granules bearing pores, except for those near the frontal and antero-lateral margins where the granules are pointed and cone-shaped. The first pleopod of the male has been figured by Guinot (1976, fig. 39b). Size: 18 x 23 mm. (ratio B/L: 1.27) (Serène, 1984)
