Hepatoporus orientalis

(Sakai, 1935)

Carapace subpentagonal, rough but naked. Gastric, cardiac and epibranchial regions not well demarcated but prominent, granular or pitted. At the level of the hepatic region, antero-lateral margin of the carapace excavated, concave; behind this concavity, three indistinct teeth, finely granulated. Exposed surface of third maxilliped ornamented with bedded granules. Chelipeds stout; propodus inflated, sculptured by networks and humps of small granules; prominent granules on upper margin. Ambulatory legs slender, granulated on both margins, and hairy. (Guinot 1998)

Type locality: between Ito and Hatsushima, west of Sagami Bay, Japan, 80-100 m.
Range: Japan - Sagami Bay (Sakai, 1935, 1939, 1965, 1976), Tsushima Strait (Takeda, 1973), Kushimoto (Miyake, 1983), Amakusa; East China Sea (Takeda & Miyake, 1972c); 50-120 m.
