Genus Hexapus

de Haan, 1833

Eyes short and stout, cornea not broader than stalk. Third maxilliped with broad ischium and merus, mesial margin of ischium distally straight or sinuous, carpus, propodus and dactylus slender, subcylindrical; dactylus longer than propodus; exopod with flagellum. Ambulatory legs short, merus of third leg shorter than carapace. Male pleopods not concealed under abdomen, lying in deep, oblique grooves on anterior part of sternum, apices setose, directed antero-laterally. Male abdomen with third to fifth segments fused, terminal segments rounded, not trilobed. Female abdomen with 7 free segments. (Türkay 1995)

Type species: Cancer sexpes Fabricius, 1798, by designation in Opinion 85, 1925.
