Genus Lophozozymus

A. Milne Edwards, 1863

Carapace xanthoid in outline (not very oval). Dorsal surface of the carapace naked and smooth (sometimes a little rugose) or with elevations (large tabular lobules), regularly distributed, with the anterior margin sometimes cristiform and emphasized by rows of setae. Regions hardly indicated and poorly defined; 3M never distinctly separated from 2M. Antero-lateral margins lobate or dentate, separated into four lobes or teeth; the anterior two lobes more usually rounded and followed by two more or less projecting or pointed teeth, always dorsally carinate or with a noticeably stout tip. Ambulatory legs with smooth crests of variable heights according to the species; carpus with only one high crest on the superior margin, sometimes doubled by a carina on the external surface. (Guinot 1998)
