Both sexes not specially dimorphic. Mimetic crabs. Carapace narrow, ovate-cylindrical, very narrowed anteriorly. Dorsal surface and margins either smooth or with low tubercles. Rostrum simple, extremely stout, uncompressed, either bifurcate and with apex broad, or undivided and abruptly narrowed apically, sometimes only apically notched. No preorbital spine; postorbital lobe sometimes indistinct or defined, close to eye and anteriorly cupped. Eyes completely sunk. Male abdomen with all segments distinct. Chelipeds very small, shorter than P2. Ambulatory legs very dissimilar, P1 the longest; articles smooth, or tuberculated or with spines; dactyli long, curved, with small teeth. Female abdomen with four segments. (Guinot 1998)
