Psopheticus insignis

Carapace subquadrilateral, three-fourths as long as broad. Surface smooth, crossed transversely by two very low and indistinct ridges. A large red spot in the middle of the carapace. Exorbital angle with a bluntish tooth. Antero-lateral border short, armed with an obliquely prominent spine at the junction of the antero-lateral and postero-lateral borders. These teeth becoming blunt with regard to the age, the spiniform teeth of the young completely lacking in the largest adult males. Subhepatic region inflated, granular. Eyes small, subglobular. In largest males chelipeds about fourth times longer than the carapace, smooth and unarmed except for the prominence at the inner surface of palm, the teeth and spinules of the meri and carpi present in young adults but blunt or obsolete in females. Ambulatory leg unarmed, except for the subdistal spine on the merus of P3-P5; merus of P2 without subdistal spine. (Guinot 1998)

Type locality: Gulf of Martaban, 110-130 m.
Range: Gulf of Martaban (Alcock, 1900b); Taiwan (Sakai, 1976a); Philippines - north of Lubang Island (Serène & Vadon, 1981), north of Lubang Island and near Cebu (Guinot, 1990); Indonesia - Makassar Strait (Guinot, 1990).
