Carapace broadly pyriform. Surface finely pubescent; three elevated portions granulate and tuberculate, with a larger tubercle, often spiniform, on the mesogastric, cardiac and intestinal regions, and sometimes in addition on the summit of branchial regions. Rostrum simple, well developed. Postorbital tooth large. Spine at end of basal antennal article curved at tip. Cheliped stout, shorter than following legs; hand inflated, globulate; outer surface sparsely granulate and with a longitudinal row of 4-5 tubercles; fingers nearly long as palm. Ambulatory legs slender, similar, almost smooth except for dactylus unarmed in adults but spinulous in youngs. A spiniform tubercle on the first abdominal segment. Pleurites of the endophragmal skeleton with their latero-external part extending beyond each side of carapace and hard, similar to the dorsal surface. (Guinot 1998)
