Genus Echinoecus

Carapace oval. Dorsal surface with the regions well defined. Surfaces of carapace, chelipeds and ambulatory legs smooth to punctate, without granules. Surface of carapace usually glabrous, never covered with any pubescence. Antero- and postero-lateral margins clearly demarcated, sometimes by a small spine or angle. Rostrum short to very elongate. Chelipeds smooth to punctate; chela short, stout; carpus with one sharp inner distal spine; fingers sometimes carinate. Ambulatory legs subcylindrical, smooth; merus subcristate; dactyl of P2 not longer than those on other legs. (Guinot 1998)
